La Plagne is the nearest major Col to our chalet, being only 12k from us to the foot of the climb. Another climb made famous by the Tour de France when Stephen Roche rode to the stage finish there so heroically in the 1987 edition of the race.
Starting in the valley near the town of Aime, La Plagne is quite a difficult climb but we find that in the Summer heat it becomes an even greater challenge. It’s a great climb if you want to test your legs when you first arrive as it’s so close to the chalet.
It has been part of the Tour de France course several times, the most recent being in a very hot day in 2002 as a mountain-top finish.
