A favourite training climb of local riders with fantastic views back over Bourg Saint Maurice and the valley road to Tignes and Val d’Isere. The road heads up through the ski resort of la Rosiere and onto the italian border at 2188m.
The Southern ascent is essentially a long and steady road to the Italian border. Starting from Bourg Saint Maurice, with a manageable gradient all the way to the summit it’s a great climb to practice finding your composure and rhythm whilst climbing for a decent length of time.
You can see the final 8 kilometres of the climb to the border ahead of you as the valley opens up after a right-hand turn as you leave La Rosiere ski resort.
The French side is South facing so it gets a lot of sun making it rideable for much more of the year than some of the other climbs in the area.
