LAST APPEARING IN THE 2015 TOUR DE FRANCE AND PART OF THE MARMOTTE SPORTIVE IN JULY, THE GLANDON IS A BRUTE OF A CLIMB. ETAPE DU TOUR 2015 RIDERS will have fond memories of a very hot day here.
Col du Glandon is a wonderful but tough climb with a great cycling history. It was first used in the Tour de France in 1947.
The approach from the South-West via Col de la Croix de Fer from the Barrage du Verney in Allemond is longer and steadier but there some steep sections in the middle of the climb. The eastern ascent is shorter but has a nasty sting in its tail as you approach the summit.
We can include the climb as part of a big ride from our chalet to Alpe d’Huez via Col de la Madeleine which we did in 2015. A challenging and hugely rewarding day.
